What you need to know about amino acids

Amino acids are natural substances found in our body. According to Oparin-Haldane theory, life on our planet originated from a protein molecule. It is these chemical compounds that are the basis of all life that exists today.

20% of the human body is made up of protein. It is necessary for the normal functioning of the body and for the harmonious work of all systems. The building block of the protein is the amino acid, the organic compound necessary for constructing the structure of the cell. But only 8 of them are used for the production of our own proteins, therefore they are called irreplaceable amino acids:

  • Valine
  • Isoleucine
  • Leucine
  • Threonine
  • Tryptophan
  • Methionine
  • Lysine
  • Phenylalanine

They either cannot be synthesized in our body or synthesized in negligible amounts, so we need to receive them from food or from other sources.

Nonessential amino acids are produced in a healthy body in sufficient quantities. There are only four of them:

  • Serine
  • Glycine
  • Alanine
  • Aspartic acid.

The third group includes the amino acids necessary for the human that are produced by the body in small amounts that quickly run out and their deficiency must be constantly replenished. Their deficiency adversely affects our condition. Amino acids of the following group are considered to be conditionally essential:

  • Arginine
  • Histidine
  • Tyrosine
  • Glutamine

Some of you may assume that we can overcome the ailments if we eat foods rich in amino acids.

Unfortunately, this would mean that we would have to eat a huge amount of these products to receive a dose of amino acids contained in 1 capsule! And together with the protein, we would eat fats and carbohydrates, the excess of which is harmful, not to mention the increase in calories.

We all need the basic blocks for the chemical reproduction of our bodies, also our brain is full of neurotransmitters, signal transmitters that ensure our good health and normal functioning, and they are also formed from the amino acids contained in our food.

If there is an imbalance among these components or their content decreases, sickness ensues that the body tries to muffle with an irrepressible craving for sweets, flour and caffeine, and to maintain its activity in such an unnatural way. Over time our body begins to get into a vicious circle of dependence on these food products.

Our food consists of three basic components: carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The first two components are quite simple. There are several types of carbohydrates, and they can be produced by our body. The metabolism of fats is also simple. But the third component, protein, is really more complicated.

The word "protein" in Greek means "the first thing." In the body, there are 3 types of fats and 8 different types of carbohydrates, and there are more than 50,000 known proteins. This huge number of protein structures determines our versatility. All the enzymes and most of the hormones, every cell, every muscle and every piece of tissue from the blood vessel to the eyeball consists of proteins. Three quarters of all the solid tissues of our body are proteins. Without proteins we would have no teeth, no bones, no nervous system, and no life at all.

Each of the fifty thousand proteins of our body is created according to a "special project" and is exclusive for our bodies. The proteins that we eat get broken into tiny parts, then the body uses them to build our own unique proteins, which it needs at the moment. These small particles, the building materials of our body, are called amino acids.

When our body needs a certain protein, it is synthesized from amino acids, which combine in a special sequence, forming chains called proteins.

The largest of the proteins known today, which is part of the human muscle tissue, consists of 38,138 amino acids. Each protein has its own particular amino acid sequence in the chain. If at least one amino acid is added to or removed from this chain, the protein becomes different and its properties change. It is this sequence that makes one protein a digestive enzyme, and some other–a muscle tissue. The combination of amino acids determines even the shape of the protein molecule, and this explains how 20 amino acids can make about fifty thousand different proteins.

Amino acids absorbed from the intestine are ready for use for any purpose in our body. They were just obtained from food and have not yet changed under the influence of metabolic processes. Since each cell produces thousands of new proteins per minute, even a slight change in this process can lead to a disease or mutation. Although the task of enzymes is to bind different amino acids into protein chains, and the task of hormones is to start this process, they could never answer these huge demands by themselves. This is done by two substances: DNA and RNA. These two nucleic acids are widely represented in all human tissues, playing a leading role in the heredity and synthesis of proteins. DNA can be called a "whole body project." Each part of the instruction for the construction of our body is coded in its constituent parts. One part can tell which amino acids and enzymes are needed for the skin, and which ones are necessary for the production of brain cells.

DNA contains information about all structures of our body, and RNA acts as a metabolic indicator. If your body needs, say, muscle fibers for the eye, RNA finds a section in the DNA "design plan" that contains the necessary information for the relevant part of the protein synthesis. Then the RNA attaches itself to this section of DNA and makes its "impression" so to say. Separating from DNA, this "impression" starts a program of protein synthesis, attracting and aligning amino acids in the correct amount and sequence in accordance with the copied code.

The synthesis of protein proceeds continuously throughout the body. It is a high-precision process, all the different substances harmoniously interact with each other. But very often the subtle and precise mechanisms of our body are vulnerable. Even if a seemingly insignificant failure occurs in some process, it can lead to a disease or a significant disruption.

For example, you are having a breakfast in front of the TV, and you are so involved with the program that you just swallow food without chewing it. Usually in the process of chewing, the food is broken into parts, which allows digestive juices to process a large area of the food lump. The more thoroughly you chew food, the more nutrients will be absorbed. Poor chewing reduces the area of interaction of food with digestive enzymes, and this results into poor digestion of the food. This means that the body will receive less amino acids, which are vital for protein synthesis. Thus, the television program becomes indirectly responsible for the protein synthesis disorder.

Different combinations of amino acids are necessary for the performance of various functions of our body. Once the assortment of amino acids is depleted, the functioning of the body is disrupted. Due to a lack of certain amino acids, the synthesis of connective tissue proteins is reduced, resulting in your nails becoming soft and peeling, the skin becoming older, saggy, especially on the face. Fats, the metabolism of which depends on proteins, begin to be deposited in the vessels, disrupting the circulation. You get fatigued very quickly, you begin to worry a lot over every little thing, you develop anxiety or depression. The quality of life decreases, and premature aging may occur.

We can make a long list of factors leading to a protein synthesis disorder: emotional stress, fast food, sedentary lifestyle, viruses, poor ecology, injuries, side effects of drugs, genetic disorders. Deficiency of nutrients will lead to health problems throughout the body, and they can trigger a disruptive chain reaction that can very quickly get out of control. This process is like a snow avalanche, starting from a small pebble that fell accidentally. Lack of even one nutritive element may lead to a serious illness in the future.

This is exactly the situation when amino acids come to the rescue. We have already seen how important these building blocks are for our body. However, you can start adding amino acid combinations to your diet so that your protection against diseases does not depend only on protein obtained from food. Highly purified amino acids are quickly absorbed, even despite digestive problems, since they do not need to be digested.

Amino acids are not medicines. Their action is not that they suppress only the symptoms of diseases, instead they work directly at the level of metabolic processes that ensure our life. Therefore, understanding how they work is the essential prerequisite for a successful individual metabolic support program.
